UAAA Committee Grayling day – this day started out a few years ago just as a few mates from the club having a wee day out at the Grayling & it seems to have grown in popularity year after year – just to make sure nobody feels left out and because of the demand we have had to limit it to Committee Members & Volunteers who do a lot of the heavy lifting over the year at the UAAA. Often helping out at the ponds in appalling weather – selling tickets – talking to our lease holders – walking the river – checking permits – clearing and cleaning up – doing the books – raising money through applying for grants or obtaining funding from sponsors – Committee work – dealing with correspondence – organising social events or competitions & doing the various things that need to be done – the next category is the regulars at Glengavel & lastly those that have supported this day year in year out. We only had 18 places so that didn’t help & then we had to deal with two that had to call off as they are roofers and are very busy due to the damage locally as a result of the storms. We are lucky to have a growing band of enthusiastic hard working Committee Members & Volunteers.
The fishing was pretty hard though the atmospheric conditions felt right but the rising and colouring water was against us – but some fish were caught – Davy managed 8 which was a fantastic result – one of our volunteers Graeme caught a real big Grayling which the picture doesn’t do justice – have no doubt there were others caught which i haven’t heard about – there was a couple of fingerling Grayling caught on the beat i was on and three others two around the 1.5lb mark a 3 quarter pound Grayling and a 3 quarter pound sea trout.
Not really much to report for 17 anglers but it was a good day to be out and about.
A few photos from the day below –
Cracking looking fish, I fish up at Gilmourton this time of year usually with no luck, am I wasting my time that far upstream?
Hi Ryan
Haven’t had any success up there in recent years but to be fair have not put the hours in either – there used to be a limited amount of decent sized Grayling even further up the water than there – i would give it a try – am sure they are still there but you will just need to find them.
Cheers
